- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was revealed last month.
- It received a lot of criticism, with many claiming that the remaster was hardly needed.
- Naughty Dog has addressed this controversy, stating that the remaster provides the best way to enjoy The Last of Us Part 2.
In November, Naughty Dog officially announced The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered for PS5. This announcement became controversial, with social media users pointing out the lack of massive graphical differences.
However, with the impending release of the remaster, new interviews have just gone live. While many appear pessimistic about the game, the director fails to see why this project caused so much outrage.
Why it matters: The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was bombed with dislikes once its trailer went live, and many claimed that this remaster would be a waste of resources.
In an interview with VGC, the director was asked about his thoughts on the backlash from the initial reveal.
Director Matthew Gallant pointed out that the remaster delivers the best experience possible for The Last of Us Part 2, making some of the criticisms from fans and audiences surprising to him.
He pointed to new additions like the Haptic Feedback, the roguelike mode, and the restored cut content. Priced at just $10 for existing owners, the director finds this offering quite reasonable for the remaster. He said:
“I don’t understand some of the consternation about what The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered offers.”
He acknowledged that such remasters are not meant to satisfy everyone. However, for new players and hardcore fans, Naughty Dog has offered enough fresh content and visual upgrades to justify the asking price.
When asked about the minimal visual difference, Matthew Gallant pointed to the game offering a similar jump as its remastered predecessor, even if the differences are less obvious to spot this time around.
In addition to new press coverage, reviews for the remaster have just gone live. Standing at a score of 90/100 on Metacritic, Naughty Dog seems to have already won critics over.
For those hoping to play The Last of Us Part 2 again, the remaster will be available on 19 January. As mentioned earlier, existing owners can upgrade to this new version for $10, making the package even better.
