- PS Plus has been providing great value to millions of PlayStation users around the world for several years.
- However, it seems like Sony has ambitions to introduce the service on other platforms, including PC.
- Sony is aiming for this change to expand the subscription and offer its value to a wider audience.
PS Plus has been a great asset to the PlayStation consoles, and while the subscription service has seen ups and downs, it is still quite popular among users due to various benefits.
The service saw a significant price hike a few months ago, which was met with quite an outrage. However, Sony clarified that the price increase was meant to expand and improve the service.
Another measure toward this end has been revealed during the recent Insomniac leaks. PlayStation seems to be planning PS Plus for PC.
Why it matters: Many PC gamers have complained about Sony’s insistence on selling its old games at high prices on the platform. PS Plus Extra or Premium on the platform could solve this issue to a great extent.

The leaks had already revealed a multi-platform push from Sony in the future.
This information now suggests PS Plus is part of this ambition. Sony already has a strategy in place to introduce the service to smartphones, browsers, and smart TVs, in addition to PCs.
PlayStation calls this expansion ‘Services 3.0’ since it would be quite a departure from the subscription’s current three-tiered model on PS4/PS5 consoles. The end goal for Sony is to create new customers across the globe on various platforms.
To accomplish this goal, PlayStation will seek the aid of other subscription providers. This could end up resulting in a situation like Microsoft and EA’s collaboration, where the latter’s subscription comes free of cost through Game Pass Ultimate.
Once this happens, PlayStation would be in direct competition with Xbox Game Pass. The latter has had a head start for many years, establishing itself through a unique model of day-and-date AAA games.
PS Plus is already home to 47 million PlayStation users across PS4 and PS5. Following last year’s revamp, it offers AAA games like Demon’s Souls Remake through the Extra tier.
Opening up this ecosystem to more players, especially on PC, could be a clever move. There is a massive market for PlayStation on the platform, and access to its games through a monthly subscription could be a game-changer for Sony.
