  • Skull and Bones has faced so many delays that many are skeptical about its release next year.
  • Ubisoft has reiterated that the game is still coming before March 2024.
  • A budget of 120 million has been used up for this game so far.

Ubisoft’s ambitious pirate-based project Skull and Bones was announced back in 2017. Since then, the game has been on thin ice as it has faced several hurdles during production.

We reported earlier that the game had faced yet another delay and is targeting a release window of early 2024. Ubisoft has now reiterated this target, confirming that it aims to ship the game very soon.

Why it matters: The studio’s confidence in this release window hints that the last delay may have been Ubisoft’s last hurdle before release.

The former Managing Director of Ubisoft Singapore, Darryl Long, has revealed the release window of the game, which is planned between January and March 2024.

Darryl Long will no longer be part of Ubisoft Singapore in the future, but the former Managing Director has provided a small glimmer of hope for fans of this multiplayer private adventure.

After a long interval, Ubisoft appears to be on track to realize its multiplayer ambitions based on the gameplay formula of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. With a budget of $120 million, this project has been a long-term investment.

Further highlighting the promising trajectory of Skull and Bones, Ubisoft’s recent closed beta has received decent reactions. As a live service game, the community’s feedback will continue to shape it into something better before release.

Skull And Bones Featured

While a multiplayer pirate game doesn’t sound too appealing to us, we are excited for another look at Skull and Bones.

The project is now a culmination of years of effort, ideas, and remixed concepts. Therefore, we hope it is able to break free from the long-known curse of development hell in the gaming industry.

For those who are fond of pirate gameplay but in a single-player setting, Ubisoft also appears to be working on a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Therefore, it will have more than one pirate-themed title in the near future.
