Geoff Keighley recently revealed the nominations for The Game Awards 2023. This event will see titles like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 competing for Game of the Year, while others like Hogwarts Legacy and Starfield have missed key nominations.
Other than the awards, this event is famous for various announcements and surprises. It seems Microsoft will also be part of these surprises this year, as a leaker confirms Xbox will have a presence at The Game Awards next month.
Why it matters: Microsoft has already announced several first-party titles and projects since the beginning of this generation. Therefore, each new event has fans excited for potential new looks at these games.
During the recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast, reliable leaker Jez Corten was asked if he had any clue about Microsoft’s plans for The Game Awards 2023. He replied:
“Yes, I pretty much know that Xbox is there.”
To keep expectations in check, Jez Corden emphasized that his statement should not be taken as confirmation of any major announcements since such leaks are always subject to change.
With Microsoft now owning Activision Blizzard, the company could be part of the event through small advertisements featuring mobile games like Candy Crush Saga or Call of Duty.
However, since this was more of a caveat from the leaker, we expect at least one or two major announcements from the company. The likes of Hellblade 2 were first announced at this event in 2019.
With the game supposedly playable from start to finish, it could return to The Game Awards with a new gameplay premiere. Not too long ago, Matt Booty also mentioned The Game Awards as a potential event for more reveals.
While Phil Spencer attended The Game Awards last year, Xbox had little to no impact on the event. However, the company is in a different position in 2023, so it has likely prepared a few surprises for its fans.
As always, we can expect the likes of PlayStation and Nintendo to show up as well. During the same month, Rockstar will reveal the first look at GTA 6, though this game is not expected to show up at the event.
