- Valve has announced a new model of the Steam Deck.
- This model has a 90Hz OLED display, a bigger battery, and various other additions.
- The Steam Deck OLED starts at $549. The older model has kept its price, offering more storage for $400.
The Steam Deck has been Valve’s most successful hardware release to date. Combining unparalleled software support with a powerful handheld, the company has been able to blur the lines between console and PC gaming.
This success has also led to demand for a new variant of the console. However, Valve has stated multiple times that the Steam Deck is likely to receive a refresh, with a successor unlikely before 2025.
While this may be disappointing for some, Valve’s refreshed Steam Deck has been announced.
Why it matters: The handheld already supports over 9000 games, including the likes of Diablo 4 and Armored Core 6, making it a convenient gateway into the world of PC gaming.

The defining feature of this refreshed handheld is its new display. After many requests, Valve has updated the screen to an OLED model, allowing users to experience vivid and life-like colors at 90Hz.
The Steam Deck now comes equipped with a slightly larger 7.4 ” screen boasting HDR support. Battery life has also been improved, with Valve offering a 25% larger battery at 50Whr.
Another major improvement has been made to the handheld’s storage. While the original models started at 64GB eMMC storage, the OLED variant can be purchased with 512GB or 1TB SSDs.
These are just a few of the changes made to the Steam Deck OLED. Additional upgrades include WiFI 6E support, a larger heatsink, improved haptics, and more.
The Steam Deck OLED starts at $549.
Users looking for more storage can get the 1TB variant for $649 from 16 November. For those interested in a more affordable handheld experience from Valve, the company has dropped the price of the original model to $400, including more storage than before for this price.
With a better display, a longer-lasting battery, and thousands of games, Valve’s latest addition to the Steam Deck lineup is a compelling option for anyone looking to take the plunge into the world of handheld gaming.
While this handheld may not be the most powerful on the market, Valve’s software support makes it much more convenient than most of the competition.
