- Mortal Kombat 1 was released on 14 September.
- The game has sold around 3 million copies since it was released worldwide.
- While the sales figures are already impressive, they are expected to rise further with future DLC.
Mortal Kombat 1 was one of the main highlights of 2023, even with such a great lineup. The game managed to live up to the legacy of this brutal fighting game, far exceeding expectations.
At release, the game became Steam’s second best-selling title. While its player count has dwindled on the platform, Warner Bros confirms the game has sold well. According to the company, Mortal Kombat 1 has nearly reached 3 million sales.
Why it matters: These figures are impressive when compared to the competition. In comparison, Street Fighter 6 sold 2 million units in over two months.
'Mortal Kombat 1' has sold nearly 3M copies since launch.

Mortal Kombat has always been one of the biggest fighting game IPs. In the West, in particular, the franchise has been prevalent for many years, as evidenced by Mortal Kombat 11 selling over 15 million copies.
While Mortal Kombat 1 has been out for two months, this entry has not shown the staying power expected from the series. Admittedly, this may be due to the stacked release schedule of 2023.
Nonetheless, the title is beginning its wave of crossovers soon. Omni-Man is coming to the game today, and this may attract fans of this character. Similarly, once Homelander arrives, the game could experience another massive boom.
Despite various issues, Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be doing well. The game was missing crossplay at release, and the Nintendo Switch port became notorious for its poor quality.
Rumors have also pointed toward a potential PS4 port of Mortal Kombat 1. Therefore, over the next few months, the release could pick up the pace and bring millions of new gamers to the series.
We have found a lot to like about the fighting game. While its sales figures may not be mind-blowing, compelling gameplay systems and an intriguing cast certainly kept us engaged in the gameplay.
The Kameo system is also quite refreshing, mixing up the IP’s gameplay much more than prior entries. All of this has culminated in the game performing better than Street Fighter 6.
