Assassin’s Creed Mirage is among the first major releases of October. While the month is stacked with highly anticipated titles, the promise of a classic Assassin’s Creed experience has helped Ubisoft’s latest title rise above the rest.

With just one day left before release, the critics have recently shared their opinions about Assassin’s Creed Mirage after having spent several days in the dense world of Baghdad.

The game has received mostly positive reviews, currently sitting at a Metacritic score of 77/100.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the first release for the franchise since 2020, marking the biggest gap between mainline titles. This, in addition to a focus on classic elements, has led to plenty of excitement.

Based on over 74 reviews, the game has reached an average score below 80/100. This puts it behind many of the earlier entries. A few of the scores from media outlets are listed below.

VGC 4/5

Eurogamer 4/5

GamingBolt 8/10

IGN 8/10

PC Gamer 77/100

Gamespot 6/10

The game has earned praise for going to its roots and taking players on a more stealth-focused journey.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has ditched the XP-based progression. It also encourages the use of parkour far more than recent entries, using Baghdad as a playground for Basim’s journey to becoming an assassin.

This focus ensures Baghdad is one of the best settings of the franchise. With a rich culture, beautiful landmarks, and each corner facilitating parkour, Baghdad stands out as a memorable location for Assassin’s Creed.

However, the game has also received criticism for some aspects. A few reviewers have pointed out that Assassin’s Creed Mirage fails to innovate, sticking a bit too close to the old formula of the series.

In other areas, the game’s attempt to blend the classic and modern Assassin’s Creed approach has not been the most successful. Additionally, certain outlets have pointed out that Assassin’s Creed Mirage has one of the weaker stories from the series.

Nonetheless, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available later tomorrow for the public.

While this entry will provide a nostalgic experience for Assassin’s Creed fans, Ubisoft plans to release another RPG next year. Following Basim’s journey in Baghdad, the franchise is finally heading to Japan.
