The next big first-party title for PS5 is less than a month away. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to drive console sales for PlayStation during the latter part of the year and the holiday season, bringing millions of new owners to the console.
Ahead of the game’s release, Sony has provided an enticing offer to convince fans looking to buy the console. New PS5 owners can now receive a free first-party game upon activating their PS5 console.
Why it matters: Jim Ryan previously stated that the PS5 is expected to sell almost the same amount of consoles as the PS4, so the company is making sure it meets the expectations with such strategies.
PlayStation confirms users can avail one game from a list of 12 first-party titles. The offer is limited to the US, and PSN account holders are required to be above the age of 18 for the game.
PlayStation’s Upgrade Program Page states console owners need to activate a new PS5 by October 20, 2023, allowing users just enough time to purchase the console alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The following games are currently being offered:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- The Last of Us Part I
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered
- God of War Ragnarök
- Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
- Demon’s Souls
- Returnal
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
These games are among PlayStation’s best offerings from the PS4 and PS5 libraries. As such, this is an excellent promotion for new users looking to familiarize themselves with PlayStation’s first-party games.
Users should note this offer is strictly for new PS5 consoles in the US and will not work on replaced or substituted consoles. Upon activating a new console, users can find the banner promoting this offer on the PlayStation Store and pick their preferred game to get started.
Many of these games are also included as part of PlayStation’s PS Plus Extra subscription.
New console buyers can consider subscribing to the service to gain access to a large number of first-party games before the PS5 picks up pace with its first-party library in the coming years.
