Xbox Game Pass was introduced in 2017 as an innovative subscription from Microsoft. Unlike the competition, it currently offers day-one AAA titles, allowing it to reach over 25 million subscribers by early 2022.

According to reports, Microsoft made nearly $3 billion from Xbox Game Pass in 2021, but a LinkedIn profile appears to have pointed to a new milestone for Microsoft’s subscription service.

According to the profile, Xbox Game Pass has exceeded 30 million subscribers.

Why it matters: Xbox Game Pass is at the forefront of Microsoft’s gaming endeavors. The subscription service separates Xbox from its competition and allows it to compete with giants like PlayStation and Nintendo.

The latest subscription figure comes from Xbox’s director of integrated marketing. His profile states that Microsoft currently offers the number one gaming subscription with over 30 million subscribers.

Though recent studies suggest gaming subscription growth has stalled in the US, Xbox Game Pass appears to have continued its momentum through a quality offering of games.

Still, this figure is lower than Microsoft’s expectations. Back in 2022, the gaming giant had already aimed for 35 million subscribers, which may not be possible this year either.

Nonetheless, the service is expected to continue such growth in the coming years. The Activision merger is likely to close by the end of 2023, and analysts have predicted such acquisitions could help Microsoft reach 50 million subscribers by the end of 2024.

Nearly all Call of Duty titles are expected to arrive on the service after the merger, incentivizing the large fanbase of the series to try the subscription.

2023 has also been a momentous year for Xbox.

The much-anticipated Starfield has finally made its way to the subscription, and games like Lies of P have ensured it continues offering an impressive selection of games across a wide variety of genres.
