The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released several months ago and is still considered one of the biggest releases in 2023. With over 10 million units sold in the first three days, it was an immediate hit among Nintendo Switch users.
The game has cemented itself as a worthy contender for Game of The Year, living up to the legacy of its predecessor, which has already earned a Game of The Year title to its name.
Following the positive reception, many have wondered if Nintendo would release future DLC to expand on the success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, the game’s Producer confirms that no DLC is currently planned.
Why it matters: This marks a shift from Nintendo’s last major Zelda release. The gaming giant released an expansion pass dedicated to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that added content like game modes and armor sets to the title.
During a recent interview with Famitsu, Producer Eiji Aonuma discussed the game’s development and Nintendo’s motivations to release a follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
On the subject of future DLCs, he revealed that the world had been explored as much as possible and not much else was left to do. Eiji Aonuma said:
“There are no plans to release additional content this time.”
As with anything in game development, things are always subject to change. But the Producer appears to be content with the team’s work on The Legend of Zelda franchise for now.
Eiji Aonuma also discussed the next potential entry for the IP. He claimed that it would continue the trend of innovative releases and provide a completely new way to play.
He also hinted that the team may revisit Hyrule and said:
“I’m thinking about what the next fun experience will be.”
While future content for The Legend of Zelda may not arrive anytime soon, Nintendo has big plans for its massive IP. Following the success of Mario on the big screen, the gaming giant has begun to hold talks for a similar adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
