Two brand new graphics cards were revealed this month at Gamescom. These two new graphics cards included the Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT from AMD. However, the launch was followed by a rather surprising statement.

According to Senior Vice President Scott Herkelman, the RDNA 3 lineup is finally complete with the Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT. The company has no plans to introduce lower-end models for the budget range.

The end of the AMD Radeon RX 7000 lineup means that non-XT variants of the above-mentioned graphics cards are unlikely to be released. Furthermore, AMD is unlikely to consider a Radeon RX 7500-series graphics card.

The gaming giant may be relying on its cheaper last-generation graphics card to fill the performance gaps between the Radeon RX 7000 series. Both the Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT are designed to compete against Nvidia RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti, respectively.

This would be similar to Nvidia’s current approach, where the last generation was initially considered an extension of the GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards. Since options like the Radeon RX 6600 are already available for $200, a budget launch may not be the most beneficial.

The RTX 4000 lineup from Nvidia is also nearing its end, with the launch of the desktop GeForce RTX 4050 remaining. However, with no competition from AMD, Radeon users might have to look at the last generation for budget graphics cards.

There are a total of six variants in the current AMD Radeon RX 7000 series from AMD. This also includes the OEM variant known as Radeon RX 7900 GRE, designed to be sold in pre-built systems.

Comparatively, the Radeon RX 6000 had double the amount of variants, including vanilla, XT, and the 50 XT series refresh at the end of its cycle. Nvidia also currently has only six variants in its RTX 4000 lineup.
