AMD has returned to the gaming industry with a new lineup of RDNA 3 graphics cards at Gamescom.

The latest addition to the RDNA 3 family includes the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB and the Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB.

Why it matters: AMD has become popular for its mid-range offerings, like the Radeon RX 6700 XT. Therefore, the gaming giant has big shoes to fill with the new products in the RDNA 3 family.

AMD has packed a lot of performance in the two graphics cards, advertising them for 1440p gaming.

In terms of performance, the Radeon RX 7800 XT competes with Nvidia’s $600 GeForce RTX 4070. According to AMD’s official performance slides, the Radeon graphics card comes out on top in most comparisons.

AMD boasts a 60FPS average experience at 1440p without the use of any upscaling. While Nivida has the advantage in ray tracing performance, the Radeon RX 7800 XT is able to come out on top in VRAM-bound scenarios due to 16GB of memory.

For the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, the gaming giant draws comparisons to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.

While the latter starts at $400 compared to the AMD offering, it can often suffer from poor performance at higher resolutions due to a limited memory bus and low amount of VRAM.

Both graphics cards will be released on September 6.

However, AMD has also delivered another nice surprise for PC gamers. The gaming giant is ready to introduce its competition for Nvidia frame generation. Alongside the two graphics cards, AMD FSR 3.0 will be launched on September 6.

The first games to support AMD FSR 3.0 include Cyberpunk 2077, Immortals of Aveum, Forspoken, and more.

In addition to FSR 3.0, AMD confirms a future driver-level update that will allow frame generation on older DX10 and DX11 titles.

With just a few more days left before the new products, September is shaping up to be the biggest month for AMD in 2023. Everything announced at Gamescom sounds promising, and the new graphics card launch is expected to add some much-needed excitement to the current PC gaming market.
