Following a drawn-out dispute over Call of Duty and the Activision Blizzard merger, Sony and Microsoft settled on an agreement last month. The deal granted PlayStation access to Call of Duty titles after the merger’s completion.
However, a recent discovery suggests that Microsoft’s deal also permits PlayStation to add Call of Duty titles to the PS Plus catalog.
Why it matters: This could mean that a large number of Call of Duty games will join PS Plus alongside Xbox Game Pass, similar to recent Bethesda Softworks titles like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Small detail that I may have just missed earlier, but Microsoft says the 10-year Call of Duty deal they signed with Sony in July was the deal they offered Sony last December. pic.twitter.com/CrkFukkY6f

As spotted by Stephen Totilo, Microsoft and PlayStation have signed the same Call of Duty deal that was offered to PlayStation in 2022.
In addition to guaranteed access to each new Call of Duty release with feature-parity, PlayStation will be able to offer these games on the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscription.
It should be noted this does not guarantee the FPS franchise’s inclusion in the subscription. PlayStation is not too fond of offering AAA titles on subscriptions at release, which is the complete opposite of Microsoft’s current strategy.
Therefore, the gaming giant may not follow Microsoft in a potential future where Call of Duty is added to subscriptions on day one. However, fans can expect older games to join PS Plus since this has already been done by PlayStation in the past.
On the subject of Call of Duty on subscriptions, Phil Spencer recently confirmed that the franchise would not be immediately available on Xbox Game Pass after the merger is completed.
The gaming giant will require time to bring the massive catalog to its popular subscription service. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Modern Warfare 3 releasing this year.
Sledgehammer Games premiered the first look at campaign gameplay during Gamescom 2023, confirming an event scheduled for October 5, revealing more information about the multiplayer and Warzone offerings.
Modern Warfare 3 seeks to appeal to classic fans, featuring all sixteen multiplayer maps from the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 at launch.
While the Activision Blizzard acquisition is yet to be completed, Microsoft has recently sold the streaming rights for Activision games to Ubisoft. The gaming giant expects to convince the CMA with this move, eliminating the last hurdle to its ownership of Activision Blizzard before the October deadline.
