The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is among the most popular games to this day. Bethesda Game Studios’ RPG is still loved by a huge fandom, and the studio has sold more than 60 million units of the game to date.
Mod support has also led to a dedicated community that has enhanced the game experience through various new additions. One such mod aims to implement ray tracing in Skyrim.
A famous modder, Pascal Gilcher, has recently created a new mod to improve the game’s visuals. The mod introduces path tracing to Skyrim, and it looks stunning.
Why it matters: While The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has many great qualities, its visuals can appear outdated by today’s standards. However, this mod hopes to bring the RPG up to par with modern standards.
The video shown above demonstrates a fresh look at Skyrim. With incredibly realistic lighting and shadows compared to the official version, this mod could even allow veteran players to enjoy the game with a fresh perspective.
According to the modder, it can be scaled to older games. Unlike RTX remix from Nvidia, the mod can work with other games like GTA 5. This could eventually lead to path-tracing implementations in multiple titles.
The modder claims it can also be improved to utilize ray-tracing hardware. This would allow the mod to take advantage of Nvidia RTX and AMD RDNA graphics cards for better ray tracing.
Unfortunately, users cannot download the mod yet. Pascal Gilcher is currently working on further improvement, and fans of his work can stay tuned to learn more about his progress in the coming months.
Aside from the mod, the next Elder Scrolls game will likely include official ray tracing support from Bethesda Game Studios. However, The Elder Scrolls 6 is unlikely to be released before 2028.
