Activision Blizzard’s acquisition has attracted the attention of all developers and publishers in the gaming industry. This is also the case with Ubisoft, and the CEO has recently shared his thoughts on the merger.
Yves Guillemot from Ubisoft appears to be happy about the deal and believes this deal will create opportunities for companies.
Why it matters: Ubisoft is among the biggest developers in the industry. The gaming giant may look toward a similar merger after the Activision Blizzard deal.
During the latest investor briefing, the Ubisoft CEO was asked about his thoughts on Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard. He stated:
“I think it’s good news that the transaction can go through because it’s really showing the power of IPs and where the industry is going.”
He further stated that the deal would create many opportunities in the coming years. Yves Guillemot believes that this deal will also help mobile gaming grow, likely inspiring confidence in the gaming giant’s investment in the mobile market.
Previously, Microsoft has claimed that mobile gaming is an important part of the merger. Games like Candy Crush already have millions of downloads, leading to inevitable success for Microsoft in the market.
Ubisoft has spent lots of money on the mobile industry. It hopes to establish a strong lineup with games like Rainbow Six Seige mobile and Assassin’s Creed Jade coming in the next few months.
Reports have also claimed that Ubisoft was looking to merge with another gaming giant. However, it was rejected, likely due to the size and scale of the company. The current acquisition could pave the way for larger acquisitions, with Ubisoft being one of the potential candidates.
While the Ubisoft CEO is happy, other companies like EA are not too fond of the Activision Blizzard merger. Publishers like EA are indifferent to the merger and continue to believe it will not impact their position on the platform.
