Sony is highly skilled at growing the PlayStation business, making itself bigger with each passing year. The gaming giant has already pursued various acquisitions, including notable developers like Bungie.
In addition to acquisitions, PlayStation is well-known for its various third-party deals. According to a new report, the company is now turning to Korea for PlayStation exclusives and third-party deals.
Why it matters: Acquisitions have become extremely popular over the last few years. Both Microsoft and Sony are looking to grow in the industry through acquisitions and third-party deals.
As reported by MTN Korea, Sony is in talks to invest in the developers such as Pearl Abyss, NCsoft, Com2us, and Neowiz Games.
Amond these developers, Com2us is famous for making mobile games. This will likely benefit PlayStation’s ambitions to pursue mobile gaming as a lucrative industry in the coming years.
Interestingly, the list also includes a publisher currently partnering with Microsoft. Neowiz Games is the publisher behind Lies of P, which is releasing on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Sony is currently collaborating with Korean developer Shift Up for Stellar Blade. PlayStation is publishing the game, and it will be released as an exclusive for the PS5 console.
Sony has always had plans to expand itself around the globe and has been working with developers from China. This includes partnerships with developers through the China Hero Project.
Developers like Square Enix are also extremely close to Sony, partnering with PlayStation for massive AAA titles like Final Fantasy 16. The latest Final Fantasy title is a timed console exclusive for the PS5, but it is expected to arrive on PC in a few months.
