Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the biggest PlayStation exclusive in 2023, with developer Insomniac Games preparing for its third game featuring the Web-Slinger. The game is set to launch in Fall 2023, with an exact release date to be revealed later.
The title is shaping up to be an excellent addition to the PS5 library, as Jim Ryan previously stated that it has been developed without any compromises. Insomniac Games has recently provided even more information on the game, revealing an exciting detail about the open world.
According to Insomniac Games, Spider-Man 2 doubles the size of its open world compared to the previous game.
Why it matters: The PS5 allows Spider-Man to traverse the environment faster. As such, the bigger open world ensures players will not feel limited by the size of the environment.
Speaking to Famitsu, Creative Director Bryan Intihar discussed various aspects of the game. This also included the open-world map, and when asked about the new additions to the map, Bryan Intihar said:
“Roughly speaking, the map size is about twice that of previous works.”
Furthermore, the Creative Director confirmed the addition of Queens and Brooklyn to the map. These will serve as smaller and more residential areas, differentiating themselves from the other parts of the map.
Speaking to another outlet, Bryan Intihar also confirmed the seamless switching between Peter and Miles. The switching is scripted in the story mode, but fans can freely switch between the two in free roam.
The open world is a huge part of what makes the Spider-Man games from Insomniac so much fan. A bigger world and faster traversal should ensure that players enjoy the sequel even more, and it feels like a fresh experience.
