Insomniac Games and PlayStation finally gave audiences their first extended look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 during the PlayStation Showcase on 24 May.
The long-awaited footage featured 10 minutes of uncut gameplay, giving fans a look at Peter and Miles and the instant switching mechanic between the two protagonists. Since then, the anticipation has grown even further.
The gameplay footage has accumulated nearly 20 million views in just 5 days.
Why it matters: While the PlayStation Showcase disappointed fans, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a highlight for many and did not disappoint after the 2-year wait since the first reveal.
The 20 million views are not from just a single video, as several channels uploaded the gameplay on YouTube.
The video uploaded by Marvel Entertainment garnered a whopping 9.5 million views, and the one from PlayStation got 7.9 million views. This adds up to over 17 million views across the two channels.
Additionally, combining uploads like the Kraven the Hunter introduction cutscene and the gameplay trailer from channels like IGN brings the total number of views close to the 20 million.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features the symbiote suit being playable for Peter. The gameplay showed a few of the symbiote’s destructive capabilities, allowing Peter to move at insane speeds and use powerful special moves.
Miles also gets new additions to his combat, but the symbiote was the highlight of the first trailer. In terms of more additions, the game is expected to bring new dialogue technology. as previously teased by Insomniac Games.
The game is still set to release in the fall of 2023, as Insomniac Games did not provide an exact release date at the showcase. However, this information will likely come in the next few months as marketing for the game picks up.
