The Outer Worlds is a 2019 single-player RPG game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, and ever since its release, the game has been complimented by both critics and players from all around the world for its intriguing stories and captivating gameplay.
Following this reception, the game has also sold well and continues to do so years later. In a recent Take-Two slide, it was revealed that The Outer Worlds has sold more than 5 million units worldwide.
Why it matters: The Outer Worlds selling over 5 million units is a big achievement for Obsidian Entertainment, and the success of the game could lead to more attention for the upcoming sequel.
The last time The Outer Worlds sales were mentioned, the title had sold over 4 million units in August of 2021. Therefore, it has now sold an additional million copies in less than two years.
Obsidian Entertainment also released the Spacer’s Choice Edition for current-gen consoles recently. This update introduced better visuals to The Outer Worlds and more. However, it was met with negativity following a poor launch.
Nonetheless, this recent release and the discussion around the game may have boosted sales with new players trying the franchise for the first time.
The Outer Worlds’ success has also paved the path for a sequel, The Outer Worlds 2. This sequel was announced back in June 2021 at Xbox and Bethesda’s shared presentation, but not much has been revealed since then. However, it will come with a new star system and a new crew.
The Outer Worlds 2 will also be available at launch on the Xbox Game Pass. With the current success of the first game, the sequel could go on to be an even bigger release, with Obsidian Entertainment utilizing its RPG experience to create another great title.
