Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two, recently published its financial results. While the financial results revealed some intriguing details, the company’s CEO also sat down for an interview with GamesIndustry for a pre-briefing call and answered some interesting questions.
In the interview, CEO Strauss Zelnick seemingly hinted at a mid-generation console refresh of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. When asked about potentially seeing new consoles, Zelnick said:
“We probably will.”
Why It Matters: During the last generation, both PS4 and Xbox One saw mid-gen upgrades. The gaming industry has been speculating if this will happen again for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
When asked about how the previous mid-generation consoles releases like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X affected Take-two, he answered:
“they did not affect the business very much.”
A powerful variant of these consoles with improved hardware is almost inevitable, considering the current consoles are already showing signs of age while handling newer games like Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
However, these mid-console refreshes may still be a year away, considering it took four years for a console refresh last generation. Previously it was also reported that the PlayStation 5 Pro may be released in late 2024.
While there is no news on a new Xbox console, Microsoft may also be working on something for the Xbox Series S|X to keep up with its console gaming rival.
Aside from that, the financial release also highlighted some other essential details and what comes next. The company revealed that GTA 5 had shipped over 180 million copies, which contributes to the majority of the overall franchise sales.
More importantly, Take-Two also hinted at the next Grand Theft Auto game, which could be released as early as 2024.
