Since Xbox Game Pass launched in 2017, it has been a hot topic. Though the service is nearly six years old, it is already very popular, as Xbox recently confirmed that it is now available in 40 more countries.
Due to its influence, many developers have different opinions on the gaming service. Expressing one such opinion, a developer has recently claimed Game Pass can cause over-saturation of content.
Why it matters: Xbox Game Pass continues to grow and has quickly become one of the most popular gaming subscription services. It is also essential to the future of Xbox.
In a recent interview with Segmentnext, the Trine 5 developers praised and criticized Game Pass. The team admitted that the subscription is an exciting program for audiences.
The developer stated:
“We believe it also contributes to the over-saturation of content in the gaming space and it can be hard to commit and enjoy games as there’s such an abundance of choice.”
The dev has mixed reactions about the platform, but he is not totally wrong as Game Pass offers many choices for fans to play, so committing to one game can prove difficult.
The subscription includes games from several first-party Microsoft developers and various third-party studios. As such, some may find the abundance of choices overwhelming.
However, Trine 5 is also joining Xbox Game Pass at launch. Therefore, the developer has clearly seen some benefits with the service. Recently, even Sony admitted that Microsoft’s subscription is far ahead of the PlayStation Plus as the service has over 15 Million PC users.
Previously, many devs have praised the platform for allowing creativity to make the games they want without many restrictions.
Nonetheless, it looks like the Trine 5 developer sees the choice and freedom of Game Pass as a double-edged sword. While the benefits far outweigh the negatives, some gamers may not have much to gain from the sheer volume of games on the service.
