A recent report suggested PlayStation was working on new hardware that would be released before the rumored PS5 Pro console. This led to speculation about the gaming giant returning to the handheld console market.
Fans were quick to discuss a potential PS Vita 2 from Sony, but this may not be the case. Reliable leaker Jeff Grubb has recently claimed it would be best to keep expectations low when speculating on the subject.
He also stated that he had heard about a cloud-streaming handheld from Sony.
I am traveling to Super Nintendo World, but I see the reports about a potential Vita 2, and I would definitely scope down those expectations. I've only ever heard about a cloud-streaming handheld.

A handheld based on the cloud would not be entirely new for the gaming industry. Previously, companies like Logitech and Razer have tried to break into this market.
PlayStation is also no stranger to cloud gaming. The gaming giant integrated games streaming into PlayStation consoles with PS Now as early as 2014. Currently, users can also stream PS3 games on consoles like the PS4 and PS5 through PS Plus Premium.
Sony could use this experience to break into the cloud handheld market while avoiding the huge risks of making a new piece of handheld hardware like the PSP and PS Vita.
While Jeff Grubb has proven reliable in the past, it should be noted that he did not elaborate much on his statement. Therefore, taking this information with a grain of salt would be best.
Previously, reports have claimed the next PlayStation showcase is scheduled to arrive before June 8. This showcase will highlight the future of the PlayStation brand and could give fans their first look at the alleged cloud handheld.
