Since Microsoft decided to acquire the gaming giant Activision Blizzard for a remarkable sum of $68.7 billion, they have faced numerous challenges with regulatory bodies like the FTC.
They have also faced opposition from significant corporations like Sony and Google. These firms have expressed concerns that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard will give them an unfair competitive advantage.
Microsoft has declined these claims and has signed a 10-year deal with Nintendo for Call of Duty, and even offered its biggest rival Sony, a 10-year contract to keep the Call Of Duty franchise on Sony’s PlayStation, which Sony declined.
Sony recently stated in new documents that were submitted to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that Microsoft might release a version of Call of Duty on the PlayStation with bugs and errors that would emerge at the game’s final levels or later updates, which would make people lose interest in playing Call of Duty on the PlayStation.
Sony stated in the document that,
“Microsoft might
release a PlayStation version of Call of Duty where bugs and errors emerge only on the
game’s final level or after later updates.”
They further noted that,
“Even if such degradations could be swiftly detected,
any remedy would likely come too late, by which time the gaming community would have
lost confidence in PlayStation as a go-to venue to play Call of Duty.”
Looking at the statement from Sony, it seems like they will not be down for any negotiations with Microsoft anytime soon. Moreover, Jim Ryan, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has also allegedly stated that he does not want a new Call of Duty deal; instead, he wants to block the Microsoft-Activision merger.
Things are pretty tense regarding the Microsoft-Activision merger, and we will be looking forward to what comes next. This is the limited information we have for now, but we will be looking for more news regarding the Microsoft-Activision deal in the future.
On that note, what do you think about Sony stating that Microsoft might try to sabotage them with a poor version of Call of Duty on the PlayStation consoles? Let us know in the comments section.
